After wandering for what feels like hours, you've had enough of the cloying open air, the decaying streets, the... nothingness you're surrounded by. You need to be within the comfort of four walls again. Eventually, you find a door that opens into the remains of a family home. The furniture is torn to shreds and the staircase is a wreck, but it doesn't matter. Somehow, it feels like home. Even if it also feels like you're not the only one there.
